This is a two-year collaborative initiative in response to the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, that aims to demonstrate effective management of public access on open countryside straddling the England - Wales border.
The project centres on the open moorland of the eastern ridges of the Black Mountains and lies partly within the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is an area of high scenic value and is popular for outdoor recreation. Important in terms of both its biodiversity and archaeological interest, the area also provides essential common grazing rights for farmers and landowners.
Project Sponsors: the UK Government's countryside advisory bodies the Countryside Agency and the Countryside Council for Wales; and the relevant access authorities, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority and Herefordshire Council
